Regional Medical Director of Blood Banking - Manhattan!:
Pathology/Hematology/Oncology - Blood Transfusion Medicine in Northeast US

Position will be based at the headquarters of the blood services region that serves the hospitals located in Manhattan. Physician's duties will include medical oversight of blood donor operations, transfusion medicine consultation to regional medical centers, coordination of support for special patient needs, medical supervision of selected blood service laboratories, including the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory, working together with the Executive Director, to provide direction to professional and support staff, and working closely with the Chief Medical Officer, to whom he or she will report.

The ideal candidate will come from an academic tertiary care center background and will have previous transfusion medicine experience including senior blood center and academic medical center transfusion service positions.  It is expected that the successful candidate will qualify for a senior faculty position in one of the New York area medical schools. The parameters of the search are for a hematologist or clinical pathologist who is board certified in Transfusion Medicine.

The doctors are not in: Trends in Health Care

Hospitals in rural areas of the country are feeling the most impact of the primary care physician shortage. This shortage is happening not only due to a smaller salary, but also due to the study track of many medical schools. The curriculum has been gearing its students toward certain specialites as of late. Some schools, however are beginning to change requirements in order to create more primary care physicians out of the students they already have.
